Shelgate Road is a beautiful residential road off the famous Northcote Road. It consists of large Victorian houses, some which have been converted into modern flats, but all retaining some stunning period features.
There are two sides of the road, one being a no through road and the other finishing at Leathwaite. Northcote Road runs between the two and offers an abundance of bars, places to eat and shop and things to do. On one of the corners of Shelgate Road, there is a well-known fishmonger stall called South Coast Fisheries which is popular with the local residents. Byron, a gourmet burger chain is located opposite, alongside other restaurants like Indian Moment and Osteria - Antica Bologna.
On Northcote Road, you will find the local Co-Op and lots of fitness classes. Larger gyms and supermarkets are located just a few minutes down the road on Lavender Hill.
There are fantastic transport links nearby, with Clapham Junction Station being less than a 10 minute walk away. From there, there are frequent trains to central London including London Victoria and London Waterloo. There are also links in and out of London, including trains to Gatwick Airport. If you would like an alternative route to your destination, there are a number of bus routes located on Northcote Road, Battersea Rise and St Johns Road. Santander also has a bike docking station, only a couple minutes’ walk away.
The big open spaces of Clapham Common are a short 2 minute walk away. The park has fantastic facilities, including an athletic sprint track, an Australian football pitch, a basketball court, a tennis court and cricket nets. The common is also home to a number of fitness clubs, boot camps and even festivals in the summer.
Shelgate Road is popular amongst families due to the popular schools and the community feel. It is also popular with the young professionals due to the transport links and the different choices of buzzing bars and pubs.
