The all expenses paid Portico company trip is the most talked about event on the Portico social calendar. The team talk about the upcoming excursion for weeks before the actual event, and months afterwards!
The trip destination is kept top secret until right at the last minute, and is usually announced at the company summer social when everyone is together.
So what happens on a Portico company trip?
A lot. We usually get to the chosen city quite late on a Friday, so we quickly check in, freshen up and head out for the evening. The social committee are dab hands at choosing the trendiest venues, and there’s always an impressive drinks reception. Though people may split up and go their separate ways later on, the welcome drinks is always a great opportunity to mingle and get to know the whole team.
When you wake up (with a slight hangover) you’re free to join the designated group activity or do your own thing. Some like to get up early, go on boat trips, explore the city and play adventure games, while others like to order room service and nap!
Come evening, everyone gets dressed up and excited about big company dinner. The venue is always show-stopping, and it’s a lovely opportunity to all sit down together for a lovely three course meal. The wine flows and everyone has a great laugh - especially when the famous company awards are announced post-meal.
By Sunday everyone is exhausted from a weekend of fun. We slowly make our way back to London - making sure we’ve got everyone - and catch up on some sleep.
When do you go away?
It’s usually in October. We finish work early on the Friday, all cram into a big coach and head to the airport. Robbie Williams (our Finance Director not the Take That singer) hands out boarding passes and we hopefully get through security with minimal drama. We then get on the airplane and the fun starts!
How long do you go for?
Friday until Sunday - so we’re back to work bright eyed and bushy tailed on Monday. (Not!)
