The Bigger Picture, Dulwich's great new film club at the East Dulwich Tavern has recently opened.
A film is shown at 8pm on the third Thursday of every month (and the occasional children's film on a Saturday afternoon), upstairs at the EDT. It is a non-profit making venture and any money that is made at the end of the year is donated to support local charities.
It is a lovely, relaxed space and you can view the large screen with a drink in hand from the comfort of a deep buttoned sofa or a comfy chair. You can order drinks from the upstairs bar, and if you want a bite to eat you can choose from the pub's extensive menu - or enjoy one of the special tapas-style dishes, a number of which are themed to suit each film.
It is the aim to offer more than just films but to create a really good evening for everyone who attends. Films are sometimes introduced by talks from actors, production crew, critics or writers. Often there is live music for an hour beforehand. Furthermore, everyone is entitled to enter the free raffle to win a book, kindly donated by Rye Books in Upland Road.
Films coming up include The Help, Raising Arizona and Les Diaboliques, a dark 1950s thriller.
“This new cinema club is a great way to enjoy films,” says Ashley Harris, manager at the Dulwich branch of lettings agent Bushells. “There is so much to do in Dulwich and this is just one more example why the area is popular with tenants and landlords alike.”
