Camden is a quirky, unconventional borough in North West London that stretches from the edge of the City in the West End up to Hampstead and Highgate. Camden was created a borough in 1965 by the amalgamation of the former metropolitan boroughs of Hampstead, Holborn and St Pancras. The borough devised its name from Camden Town, which gained its name from Charles Pratt who was the 1st Earl of Camden in 1795. There are also 162 English Heritage blue plaques across the borough representing the many diverse personalities that have lived there.
