Lordship Lane is arguably East Dulwich's most famous road and also its High Street. As a result it's as vibrant and as diverse as any resident would desire. Lordship Lane has seen a transformation in recent years on the back of a rich history. For example, famous past residents of Lordship Lane include children's author, Enid Blyton. After the infamous Great Train Robbery of 1963, which was arguably the most famous robbery in Modern British History, Ronnie Biggs and his crew chose The Cherry Tree Pub, of Lordship Lane, as the perfect spot to enjoy celebratory drinks, frequenting many times until their eventual capture.
Lordship Lane contains some iconic local buildings. 'The Concrete House' is an example. It's a listed building and believed to be the only surviving example of a 19th Century concrete house in England.
Roughly around half of Lordship Lane remains solely residential and caters to families drawn to the tree-lined streets and excellent schools nearby. One of the excellent features of East Dulwich is the fact that its properties are taken from a variance of different periods, and Lordship Lane demonstrates this well. The centre of Lordship Lane, which has a concentrated presence of commercial properties, offers Victorian period properties which have been converted into apartments. Young working professionals are typically residents here. Heading south down Lordship Lane, you’ll notice more Edwardian semi-detached houses, which cater for families looking for large living spaces.
Today, Lordship Lane serves residents of East Dulwich in providing a great selection of independent bars, restaurants and specialist home stores. As more buyers continue to shift from South West to South east London, this becomes more apparent. Yama Momo, a Japanese restaurant and bar is a great example. A recent addition to Lordship Lane, it has a well-established sister restaurant in Clapham. After seeing the momentum fuelling the transformation, the team decided to follow their clients and the restaurant has become a welcoming addition for the residents around Lordship Lane.
