Drinksmotion’s tagline is that they’re shaking up the present and they’ve certainly caused a stir in Hammersmith. Columbian coffee shop by day, mixology courses by night - this Hammersmith haunt is a hit with those looking to experience something a little different. It looks more Shoreditch than Hammersmith, think beer barrel tables, chunky wooden benches filled with locals on their MacBooks, and a long bar filled with an array of unusual spirits. I popped in to meet manager Elexander and find out how they’re settling into Hammersmith…
Drinksmotion has come to London! Their Hammersmith shop is the newest member of the Drinksmotion club, located less than ten minutes from the Tube station. It joins offices in Barcelona, Ibiza, Madrid, Mallorca, Sevilla and Valencia.
Though it only opened eight months ago, the place has a welcoming, lived-in feel. The atmosphere is relaxed, there are locals working on their laptops sipping coffee and a meeting is taking place at the back, with four men admiring dusty bottles of tequila. There’s a big wooden communal table as well as more private seating space, and beer barrels are being used as tables. All the trendy, bearded staff compliment the look of the place and Alexander gets up to welcome me.
During the day, Drinksmotion is a coffee-lover’s haven. The strong smell of coffee wafts through the shop and service comes with a smile and a willingness to talk - if you should so wish. Elexender starts making me a coffee, while telling that that a great cup is all about the beans and the passion. He’s taking his time crafting heart shapes into my flat white and the result is a very good looking cup of coffee. The coffee they serve is a Columbian brand called Salazar, which is made by a small family who’ve been roasting beans for many years. If you like something sweet with your coffee, there’s a tempting range of sweet treats available - including some rather gigantic gooey brownies.
During the evening, Drinksmotion offers a range of classes, seminars and workshops. Elexander tells me the most popular is their gin and tonic tasting class. The class starts with a brief history and understanding of the drink, before professional bartenders make the perfect G&T for you to sample. It’s then your turn to try it yourself with a host of different flavours. There’s a big range of classes available, from beer and wine tasting to cocktail making classes and each class is hosted by professionals who know how to have fun. Plus they only use the most unique bottles and spirits in their classes, so you really do get to try something a bit different. A huge range of customers pile through Drinksmotion’s door, as their classes are the perfect thing to do with friends on a weekend, as a quirky first-date, or as a company team-building event.
