Canonbury Villas is a row of beautiful red brick mansion blocks overlooking the green spaces of Canonbury Park. The terracotta brick work, sash windows and iron railings make this a picturesque street, enhanced by the greenery from the park and the towering trees that line the street.
The location is ideal, you will often find locals taking their dogs for a stroll in the park opposite, or the occasional jogger on their Sunday morning run. The New River Path snakes through the park and an afternoon stroll along here will bring you to the New River itself, the old aqueduct built by Sir Hugh Myddleton in the early 17th Century. The River once provided London with fresh water from outside the city.
Essex Road sits to the East and Upper Street to the West, both renowned for their variety of boutiques, bars, cafes and restaurant choices – locals often refer to Upper Street as ‘Supper Street’ given the number of independent establishments that have popped up over the years, arguably one of the best choices the London has to offer outside of the West End. For those with children, St. Mary’s Church of England Primary School is just around the corner and has received good ratings in the past, and for those that like their food the Islington Smokehouse on Canonbury Road presents some of London’s best smoked and grilled feasts.
Transport is not hard to come by, with Essex Road station just around the corner providing access to the City via the London Overground. Highbury & Islington tube station and Angel tube station are within equal distance either to the north or the south, the former operating on the Victoria line and the latter on the Northern Line. Canonbury Villas is a one way street so is rarely used for passing traffic, it’s mainly the residents that park here.
