The picturesque Milner Square is a townhouse-lined garden patch located conveniently off Upper Street. The Square can be accessed by both Barnsbury Street and Theberton Street, as well as the pedestrian-only “hole through the wall” via Almeida Street. While its decadence was originally planned to exceed that of today, Milner Square remains a beautiful neighbourhood with grand four-storey homes, most of which are now flats. At the northern end of the street lies the popular Waterloo Gardens development.
As you would expect being so close to Upper Street, Milner Square has a huge variety of transport options available for its residents. Angel and Highbury & Islington stations (providing Northern, Victoria, Overground and National Rail links) are almost equidistant from the square, each less than a ten minute walk away. If bus links are preferable, bus numbers 4, 18 30 and 43 stop nearby on Upper Street and run to Waterloo, Euston, Hackney and London Bridge respectively. The Waterloo Gardens block offers its residence gated-entry parking (often rented separately) as well as bike parking. On-street parking is available through permits which can be obtained from the local Islington council.
All of the houses and flats on the square overlook the quaint leafy patch that has been a focal point of the square since it was built. Despite being dug up during the second world war to allow for the building of raid shelters and again being partially cordoned off following construction of the Victoria line as a ventilation point, Milner Square garden remains a small escape complete with park benches, a small football pitch and park. Plentiful restaurants and bars are just around the corner with delightful Turkish cuisine being provided by Mem and Laz brasserie and the popular Rosa’s Thai being found on the neighbouring Theberton Street.
With fantastic access to all over London and a wealth of entertainment options being provided by the popular Upper Street area, it’s no wonder why Milner Square is so popular with young professional singles and couples, and families and those wanting to stay long-term.
