Named after Sir Hugh Myddelton, the man responsible for the development of the New River aqueduct which brought fresh water into London in the 17th century, Myddelton Square is a lovely public garden surrounded by wonderful period townhouses. St. Mark’s Church in the centre of the square adds to the picturesque setting in the heart of Islington. Protected by the Preservation of London Squares Act, this part of London has remained unchanged for many years, and will not see any introduction of new buildings or developments, adding to the appeal of living on such a spectacular square.
The wisteria covered terraced houses tend to be home to families who have adopted the village environment in this bustling part of London as their home. Clerkenwell Church of England Primary School which is a few roads away also adds to the area’s appeal. Young professionals also reside here in the conversions which have been done to an excellent standard, retaining the character whilst adding a modern presentation inside each flat. The location is also moments from the internationally recognised Sadler’s Wells Theatre.
It’s not just theatre that provides entertainment for the locals. Myddleton Square is moments from Upper Street – Islington’s main high street, and if you can’t find something delicious to eat or a hot coffee to drink here, then look no further than Exmouth Market off Rosebery Avenue. Here you can find a huge number of gastro pubs and fine-dining options. If you fancy a dance, one of London’s biggest nightclubs is a ten minute walk away – Fabric – here you can rave until your heart’s content, if that’s your thing.
For transport, this is also a perfect location. If you need to get into the City and don’t fancy a walk, Angel Tube station is close, which offers the Northern Line service operating a train every 2 minutes. Farringdon station is a 10 minute stroll, and the Barbican is not much further. With such rich history and so much to do nearby, it's no wonder people that live on Myddleton Square end up staying for a long time.
