Built in the early 1800s, the classic white stucco-fronted terraces on Richmond Avenue are a vision of typical and renowned Islington architecture. The iconic sphynxes that guard the doorways and porticoes of the southern terrace have become a quirky historic symbol of this highly desired road. Many of the properties at the westerly end of the road are still the grand family homes they were designed as, but as you head east towards Liverpool Road you will find more flat conversions.
Joining Liverpool Road to Caledonian Road, Richmond Avenue is a gorgeous tree-lines street in the heart of Islington. Transport links are plentiful as it benefits from being just a short walking distance to Angel (Northern line), Caledonian Road and Barnsbury (Overground), Highbury and Islington (Overground and Victoria lines) as well as the international station at King’s Cross St Pancras. Buses that pass through the Cally and Liverpool Road head to various destinations around London including towards London Bridge, Liverpool Street and Trafalgar Square. On-street parking is obtainable through consent of the Islington Council.
While Richmond Avenue itself doesn’t have much in the way of shops, bars or restaurants, these can easily be found just a few streets away. The Albion Pub is a gorgeous Georgian pub found only moments away on the nearby Thornhill Road, which has regularly found its way onto hot lists including the “Best Pubs in the UK” list by The Guardian. For the families that live in the vicinity, there are plentiful green spaces within arm’s reach, with Thornhill Road Garden located midway down the road, and the increasingly popular Barnard Park, with its fantastically fun adventure playground, just a couple of minutes down the road. Beckett House Montessori Nursery School is nestled amongst the homes on this road. This “Good” Ofted-rated school is popular amongst young families that make this area their home.
With many longstanding residents and a flow of new tenants made up of both young professionals and families, Richmond Avenue has a great community vibe that makes it warm and welcoming. Surrounded by lovely green spaces and filled with history, Richmond Avenue is the perfect place to call home.
