Grand Georgian terraced houses with imposing multi-coloured front doors and white sash windows run the length of Theberton Street. Only the first few buildings as you enter onto the street from Upper Street have commercial units below (including one of our Portico offices), while the rest maintain their historical grandeur. While most remain large family homes, others have been professionally converted to high standard flats - many of which maintain some of their original features.
Set almost directly between Highbury and Islington and Angel stations, which offer the Overground, Victoria and Northern lines, and within walking distance to King’s Cross St Pancras international station, Theberton Street offers a plethora of rail links to all over London and beyond. With well-connected Upper Street just around the corner, there are loads of different buses that frequently arrive to take you into the City, towards London Bridge and towards Battersea Bridge. While residents’ permits are readily available from Islington council for this and surrounding streets, you will commonly see cycle-commuters heading home this way.
Not only is Theberton Street right in the centre of Islington’s popular Upper Street, but it also has some culinary wonders of its own. Many a food enthusiast flock here to go to Mem and Laz brasserie, which offers a delightful menu of Mediterranean cuisine or to Rosa’s Thai restaurant, which has a few other London locations such as in Carnaby Street. If brunch is more your thing, La Farola, on the corner of Theberton Street and Upper Street, offers a delicious selection of late weekend morning options - and you will get a discount if you bring your Portico Places card! A couple of vintage styled and classic hairdressers and barbers are also found along this end of the road (one with a secret basement salon). Just across the street from Theberton Street you will find a couple of local supermarkets on the Upper Street side, and if you go a little down Liverpool Road to the East you will find a big Sainsbury’s for all your grocery needs.
Theberton Street is an obvious choice for those who want the magnificent blend of peace and excitement that the Upper Street Angel area of Islington has to offer. With bars, restaurants, shops and some of Islington’s best parks and schools only minutes away, what more could young professionals and families alike ask for from a North London Road?
