If you’ve been waiting patiently for a buzzing bar where the food is as good as the drinks, you’re in luck. Suburb SW11 is Battersea’s brand new haunt on Falcon Road, serving up sizzling, Lava stone cooked steak, date-night perfect sharing fondue dishes, healthy options and bottomless brunch for those who like to start the day with unlimited prosecco. (Who doesn’t?) I swung by for breakfast, here’s what I thought…
Just two minutes from Clapham Junction station, Suburb SW11 has an ideal location in the heart of Battersea. The venue has an industrial, welcoming feel, with exposed aluminium pipes on the ceilings, hanging loft pendant lights and solid dark wood furnishings. We took a seat in a comfy high leather booth by the window and started scanning the menu.
It had been a relatively quiet Friday night, so instead of carb-loading I chose the crunchy granola (a steal at just £4) and the French toast, with a cappuccino to wash it down with. My breakfast date - who hadn’t had a quiet night - settled on Eggs Florentine on soft English muffins with a freshly squeezed orange juice and a frothy latte. We decided to be good and avoid the booze, but the offer of two courses with free flowing prosecco or juice for £27 was certainly tempting. We made a mental note to put that in the diary for next month.
Service was attentive and quick - we’d hardly finishing discussing the previous night before our food arrived. It was thoughtfully presented; the crispy French toast came on a bright red china plate, served hot and generously sprinkled with maple syrup, juicy raspberries and sugar. It had a deliciously crispy texture on the exterior and a creamy softness on the interior, and had been laced with cinnamon. The granola really packed a crunch, despite being swathed in creamy yoghurt and fruit, and my breakfast date said her eggs were cooked to perfection. The coffee was also the best I’ve had in quite a while, so overall, very impressed!
Suburb SW11 offers a brilliant brunch, but if you’re looking for atmosphere and a buzz, it’s busiest on Thursday, Friday and Saturday evenings. They have their own resident DJ who plays some great mixes until 2am, and performers to keep diners or drinks entertained. Better still, their Happy Hour is actually Happy Hour and a Half - served from Monday to Saturday, 5pm till 7:30pm, with cocktails half price 'til 10pm! Winning.
