Why Use Portico Host Over Competitors?

June 26, 2018

There are many reasons your property could be sitting empty – whether you travel for work often, it’s currently for sale while you're living elsewhere or you’re a landlord between long-term tenants - or you could even just be going on holiday.

Short letting your property might not be something that’s been on your agenda previously, but it can be a great way to utilise your empty property and earn some extra cash. Whatever your situation, if you’re looking to short-let your property in London Portico Host, our Airbnb Management Service, could be just the thing for you.

Read on to find out how Portico Host has been a helpful option to some of our customers.

Martin’s Story

When I moved in with my partner I was left with the decision of what to do with my current property. Whilst deciding whether to rent it out long-term or sell it, I decided to put it on Airbnb but I wasn’t able to manage the property myself, particularly the guest turnaround and laundry.

It was important to me that guests always met someone at the property so they would get a more personal service and feel a greater attachment to the property and the host. This way they’d be led to take more care of the property. I chose Portico because they offered different packages, meaning I could sign up to their Concierge Package and get the personal service I wanted.

I hadn’t used Airbnb before but the Portico Host team took care of everything on that side of things and made it really easy. My only job was to prepare the property itself.

The most important thing to me during the course of my time using Portico Host was that the Account Manager responded quickly to all messages and booking requests, negotiated well and managed the arrival and ‘check-in’ process with guests and my Account Manager was brilliant.

Portico Host was a great stopgap and I used it before deciding to let my property long-term, which Portico were able to do for me too.

Martin listed his property with Portico Host between October 2017 and April 2018, earning an average of £85 per night with his 1 bedroom home in Kennington. Click here to find out how much you could earn on Portico Host.

Maureen’s Story

I’d recently put my house on the market with Portico but it was currently sitting empty. Being on the market with Portico, we were made aware of the Airbnb Management Service they offered and decided this would be a good option whilst we were waiting for the property to sell.

Using Airbnb to short-let our home was a great way of covering costs and bringing in a little income whilst the home was empty. I’d never used Airbnb but was aware of its popularity, especially somewhere like London.

I opted for the Essential Package as it covered all the bases – cleaning was included and bedding and linen provided. The Account Manager handled everything to do with bookings and sorting out keys in the lockbox so guests could come and go easily.

My only job was making the property attractive for prospective guests during the set up process, but Portico do offer a Styling Service for that if you need it.

Whilst using Portico Host, the Estate Agents were still able to do property viewing, so when my house sold, I ended my time on Portico Host.

Overall, I think that offering this service is great as it saves homeowners paying out expenditures and upkeeping maintenance when the property is sitting empty and gives you the income to cover this.

Maureen listed her property with Portico Host between December 2017 and April 2018, earning an average £160 per night with her 4 bedroom home in East Dulwich. Click here to find out how much you could earn on Portico Host.
