We put our bodies through a lot. Relentless slouching in chairs, daily trampling’s on the Tube, intense workouts at the gym... Isn’t it about time we said sorry? Whether you’re suffering with a niggling neck ache from straining over your computer, you have a spinal condition, or you just want to prevent any future muscle or bone problems, ESPH can help. I took a trip to their Harley Street physio clinic to find out more…
ESPH is appropriately located on famous Harley Street: a centre of private medical excellence. The clinic is situated inside a beautiful period building, and when you walk in you’re greeted with a grand reception and a friendly receptionist.
I was visiting for a sports massage, so I was directed upstairs into one of the light and airy treatment rooms. I was met by a lovely lady called Gail Cameron, who talked me through the massage process and asked if there was a particular area I wanted her to concentrate on. I explained that I sit at a desk all day for work and she advised she pays special attention to my neck, upper back and my wrists (I type a lot) - though she is also specialised at treating the body as a whole.
I’d never had a sports massage before so I was quite taken aback at the sheer force of the massage. It definitely wasn’t painful, but she used a lot of strength to relieve the muscles of any tension and you could really feel the tightness being smoothed out. We talked throughout the process, and she gave some fantastic tips for keeping bones, joints and muscles strong while sitting at a desk.
It was wonderfully relaxing and felt as if tension and stress was literally being lifted from my body.
Sports massage is fantastic for aiding rehabilitation after an injury and it’s also advised for those who exercise frequently, as it keep the muscles relaxed and less prone to strains. It will also help to eliminate toxins such as lactic acid from the body and can help improve sleep patterns, manage hormonal issues and deal with the strains of everyday life.
As well as sports massage, ESPH offers expert pregnancy physio, rehab, dietary advice and fitness testing, and personal Pilates classes.
