If, like many millennials, your hobbies consist of - and are limited to - Netflix, browsing the internet and ordering food on your phone, we’ve got good news for you: Drink, Shop, Do is a hipster café/bar in King’s Cross that’s inspiring generation avocado to pick up a hobby! From book binding and modern calligraphy, to the more unusual spaghetti sculpting, pineapple pimping and Lego construction - you’re guaranteed to find something you love doing at Drink, Shop, Do.
Drink, Shop, Do is the brainchild of school friends Kristie Bishop and Coralie Sleap, who decided to stuff their ‘proper jobs’ back in 2010 and combine all their crazy ideas under one roof.
You’ll find the café/shop/bar tucked down Caledonian Road, just a few minutes’ walk from King’s Cross station. It’s open day to night and decked out with retro furnishings, offering a small upstairs bar area and a larger space downstairs for bigger groups or hen ‘dos.
We arrived on a Tuesday evening and took a seat at a comfy booth near the front of the shop. A friendly waiter came and handed us a bar menu, which consisted of wine, cocktails and cheese and charcuterie boards. There were some delicious looking tarts and cakes displayed on the café counter too.
We opted for a rose and lychee martini, which was served with Broker’s gin, lychee, rose and Turkish, delight and a gluten free cheese and charcuterie board to share. Service was quick and attentive, and helpings extremely generous - we had enough cheese for a small dinner party! We particularly liked the salty prosciutto and creamy gorgonzola Dolce, which was divine spread over crackers with a bit of chunky apple chutney.
As we tucked in, our waiter reappeared with the evening activity: Patrick Swayze clay modelling! The activities are free to do and great fun - we were actually quite proud of our final Patrick Swayze models, even if they were a little wonky! There is always something fun going on at Drink, Shop, Do, from free activities like Papier Mache Monster Clowns and Biscuit Decorating, to Dirty Scrabble Dating (£13) and Necklace Workshops (£40). We can’t wait to come back next week to discover a new weird and wonderful hobby.
