Finding a great hairdresser is like getting home to find your cat has done the ironing and made you dinner - rare. All too often our ‘make me look like this girl from Instagram’ request is ignored completely, and the appointment is used as an opportunity for the hairdresser to let out all their inner stress. It’s for that reason, that when I left Salon Sin with a full head of bouncy, shiny hair - minus the split ends - I just knew I had to tell everyone about it…
Salon Sin is a boutique hairdressers on Kentish Town road - just a two minute walk from Camden Town Tube. The space has a head-to-toe 60s vibe, with retro cinema seats, pendant lights and a juke box playing the era’s smoothest hits. They're well-known for their trendy cuts for men, women and kids, (they have an iPad playing kids' TV shows), and if you're unsure of what you want, they have a digital catalogue of haircuts and styles for quick searches.
It’s run by a guy called Jamie, who has been cutting hair for years. He’s every inch the cool hairdresser, and as we start chatting I find out he’s the artist behind all the art on the walls. There are a few other talented stylists who work at Salon Sin too, and each hairdresser uploads their cuts and ‘dos on the company’s Facebook page - so if you check it out and see a hairdo you love, you know who to ask for.
It was really refreshing to have a full on consultation before seeing a pair of scissors, and Jamie took the time to listen to what I wanted (as little as possible off, with a few layers here and there).
After a quick hair wash - and a nice head massage - the gown went on and I took a seat in a comfy leather Belmont chair. Jamie got to work while I sipped on a good cappuccino and unwrapped a personalised Salon Sin choc - nice touch.
We chatted through the whole process, which took about an hour start to finish. Jamie is a brilliant stylist and constantly asked if I was happy with what he was doing - which I was. He finished by blow-drying my hair and putting in some lovely smelling treatment, and I left happy with great hair. Am I allowed to say that?
