Based in the heart of leafy Dulwich Village, The Porters Barbers is a traditional barbers with old-school prices - just £21 for a haircut and a tenner for a beard trim. Wet shaves, waxing and facials are also on the cards - and you’ll get a leather chair, a Turkish coffee and service with a smile with every treatment. I popped in meet Tuba, the Managing Director, to see what the ladies of East Dulwich are missing out on!
Porters Barbers is located at 78 Dulwich Village, next to Romeo Jones coffee shop and a few doors down from Bartleys flowers. It’s less than half a mile walk from North Dulwich station.
Walk through their doors and you’ll immediately be greeted a member of staff who’ll take your coat and show you to a chair. The vibe is warm and welcoming, and it seems the barbers have earnt a loyal following of local clients. As for the look of the place, it’s a perfect mix of old-school style with modern touches. Vintage leather chairs are facing a large, wide screen TV on the wall, and there’s an array of retro products and barber tools on display.
Their barbers are some of the best in London, fully trained to offer a huge range of cuts and styles for all hair types and ages, plus Turkish hot towel shaves and beard trims. Tuba tells me that they are fantastic at listening to what their clients want, and the place is a real hub of the community.
Their haircuts are followed by a relaxing scalp massage with a tonic of choice, and if you want to relax a little longer, they also offer a range of pampering services. Their Shaving/Ingrowing facials are extremely popular, as is their Deep Tissue Massage, which is ideal for treating pain, or sport injury.
