I love to cook, but it’s nice not to have to do it all the time. And I think the sentiment rings true for most Londoners - which is why COOK is becoming such a household name. The gourmet grocery shop offers a delicious range of frozen ready meals, entertaining food, and puddings - and everything looks and tastes wonderfully homemade. I popped into COOK to see if their Indian takeaway range could convert me into becoming a frozen foodie…
You’ll find COOK at 847 Fulham Road - just a few doors down from our Fulham Portico branch. It’s painted in a lovely shade of light green and the windows brightly advertise their latest yummy dishes - so it’s hard to miss.
I popped in to try their Indian takeaway range, which was recommend to me by Steph, the lovely manager at the Fulham branch. My expectations were high; like most of the nation I love a good curry, and Steph had said their dishes taste better than a “proper takeaway” - and they’re much better for you too.
COOK claim the flavours in their Indian range dance and sing like a Bollywood star, and they’re not wrong! We went for a Chicken Jalfrezi and Saag Chicken, and chose Roasted Vegetable and Chickpea Curry, Saag Paneer, Peas Pilau Rice, Pappadums and some delicious Hawkshead Mango Chutney to share.
My favourite was the Jalfrezi. The curry really packed a punch without being too hot, and there was plenty of sauce to mop up with a crunchy pappadum. The Saag was also deliciously light, fresh and aromatic - and both dishes were under 400 calories each. Who said you can’t have a curry if you’re on a diet!
The side dishes were a welcome accompaniment. The Saag Paneer was salty and tasty, and the roasted veg and chickpea curry (V) (GF) was a lovely blend of oven roasted peppers and carrots with cauliflower, spinach and toasted cumin seeds. Plus the whole thing was just 211 calories - result. Overall, we were left extremely satisfied without feeling the need to unbutton our jeans. A welcome surprise after a good curry!
Everything can be microwaved in minutes, or put in the oven and left to cook if you have some time. COOK don’t just offer Indian dishes, but a huge range of cuisines, from Thai and Chinese, to comfort food, pies, healthy pots, kids’ meals and puddings.
Free takeaway for two (one two portion main and one two portion side from their 'takwaway' range). Only available at Cook Fulham. Customers can only claim once.
