If you're living in London and are yet to discover Dirty Bones, then you're in for a treat! Dirty Bones is a New York inspired eating, drinking and socialising joint birthed by two friends who wanted to bring the vibrant New York style and culture to London. They found their first Dirty Bones home in West London, the underground space in Kensington was perfect for the vibe the duo were looking to bring to the city. Having previously hit up the Central and Shoreditch Dirty Bones, this was my first time to head to where it all began.
It's hard to miss Dirty Bones in Kensington, with its big neon light glaring from the outside, urging you to come inside. It's a Thursday night when we decide to head on down and the temperature has noticeably declined so popping underground to somewhere we can eat, drink and have a boogie is perfect!
We've hit Kensington Dirty Bones on their live band night; on the first Thursday of every month, a band will be in for a few hours to ease you into the new month and get you in the mood for the weekend.
It’s a hip-hop, funk and soul night on this thirsty Thursday and while the band set up, our food starts to arrive; The Mac Daddy Burger and Beef Short Rib. The menu shows off the finest delicacies New York has to offer, with all the food being cooked to perfection with just enough sauce-dripping and lip-smacking going on and not willing to waste time we tuck in. So no to miss out on sampling what each other has ordered we've split everything; the mac 'n' cheese is flowing out of the burger and the combination with the double brisket and dry aged steak is even better in my mouth than it sounded on paper. The beef short rib had been recommended to us by our waiter, who assured us it was the best we were going to get in Kensington, he was not wrong! Draped in an espresso-spiked BBQ sauce and cooked for 12 hours, the beef was falling off the bone, straight into our eager mouths. Accompanying all this, not we needed anything extra, were chicken bones with a blue cheese dipping sauce and crispy lamb fries - both were cheesy, meaty and delicious. Could have easily been a meal in themselves. Top marks.
Meals in consumption we dip once more into the cocktail menu that is laden with options, even better if you’re here Monday - Friday between 5-7pm signature cocktails are only £5! An absolute steal in the capital. So with this in mind we are onto our second cocktails, opting for a cocktail titled the littlest hobo, that incorporates both gin and cinder, a mix I was yet to try. Then feeling strong and sassy my date picks the ‘call me clementine’ martini - labelling itself as all this and more served in a coupette glass.
Food finished, plates cleared and the band about to hit their first keys we sit back to enjoy the first few songs while our food digests before getting up and swinging ourselves in front of the band and already planning in our next visit.
