Heading up north to Highbury isn’t something I usually do. Which is a terrible admission, since I’ve been living in London for almost three years now.

For some reason it’s a place that hasn’t been on my to do list, but when the opportunity arose to go and try the brunch at Beam, I thought, why not? I like an adventure as much as the next person.

Much to my delight, it was a decision I didn’t regret.

Beam is situated right on the high street in Highbury. A street that is both thriving and not too busy - a double positive in my book. There is a quaint little bookshop and a pottery shop just up the road, as well as the usual high street suspects. It’s pretty darn cute. As it was sunny, and being ever the British weather optimists, we chose to sit outside.

Although it’s worth noting that the interior is stunning and is definitely one for home inspiration. From the hanging indoor plants decking the front windows to the white marble pillars that compliment the plush green leather seating.

After a quick browse of the menu, my friend and I decided we’d share (mainly to avoid any awkward food envy). We ordered two green juices packed with kiwi, avocado and mint, one Shakshuka which came out sizzling with a couple of fried eggs in the middle and some homemade bread on the side, Cafe beam puddingwe also ordered the Goat's Cheese and Beetroot Eggs Benedict packed with freshly crushed beetroot, sprinkled in dukkah and oozing goats cheese with runny poached eggs on top. I have to say it was all delicious, but especially the Shakshuka (my choice). I genuinely think I could have ordered the same thing again immediately afterwards, even though I was full to bursting. It’s THAT good.

Whether it was the first glimpses of sun, the lovely staff, the cute dog sat next to us or the delicious food, we decided we couldn’t leave just yet. Instead opting for some good old-fashioned alcohol, Saturday style.

Out came the two glasses of Aperol Spritz, beautifully orange in colour and taste, and a wonderful addition to an otherwise perfect Saturday afternoon. Suffice it to say, I’ll be back at Beam very soon to explore the rest of this indulgent menu! Maybe I'll see you there?
