The Royal Docks sits on the eastern fringes of London. It comprises three docks; the Royal Albert Dock, the Royal Victoria Dock and King George V Dock. The Royal Docks came to life commercially between 1855 and 1921 and became London's principal docks during the first half of the 20th century. Specialising in importing and unloading foodstuffs, everyday saw thousands of men toiling huge cargoes of goods from ships. Sadly, the docks were heavily attacked during the Second World War and reached the peak of their activity in the 1960s and in the 1980s, the Royal Docks became derelict.
