It’s SAFEagent Awareness Week 2016 - a week aimed to remind landlords and tenants that their finances could be at risk if their agent doesn’t have client money protection in place.

But before we go any further, what is SAFEagent?
SAFEagent is a scheme that allows agents to show landlords and tenants that they are part of a Client Money Protection Scheme.
Under the scheme, agents are regulated by the National Approved Letting Scheme, the Association of Residential Letting Agents, the National Association of Estate Agents and the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors, who will pay out to the customer in the event of the agent going bust or misappropriating money that has been handed over as a deposit or rent.
It therefore reassures customers that they are using an agent who is a member of recognised professional bodies, and that their money will be held safely and separately to the agency’s money.

All agents who are part of the scheme display a SAFEagent kitemark - whether that’s on their website or on their shop fronts - so it’s really important that you choose an agent who’s part of the scheme, rather than the cheapest.
