Bicycle Mews is a small collection of apartments consisting of four blocks within two buildings. The development was built within the last decade and is situated next to Clapham Leisure Centre on Clapham Manor Street. The gated development has a very limited amount of parking space (roughly about four), however each property has access to a large bicycle store inside each block, hence the name Bicycle Mews.
There are well tendered communal gardens and a small children's playground to the rear of the property, although the gardens are rarely used as most flats have their own private balcony (some with great city views). The balconies are a prominent feature of the buildings due to their colourful choice of glass (or Perspex) used, these are constructed with red, green and yellow panels and against the grey metal and yellow and white render, make an interesting building to look at. The blocks are six floors tall (including the ground floor), with secure entry systems to the front, lift and stair access to each floor along with the communal bike store and communal bin stores. Further secure doors are on each floor after the lift and stairwell to prevent any unwanted guests.
The location of Bicycle Mews is very convenient, with Clapham High Street just a short walk away offering tube stations, railway and bus routes as well as the vast selection of shops, eateries, watering holes and amenities that Clapham has on offer. The entrance to Bicycle Mews is easily missed as it could easily be mistaken for access to the rear of the shops on Clapham High Street and the buildings are set further back from sight.
Most of the flats have two bedrooms, some with two bathrooms, others with one. There's a selection of social housing and privately-owned properties. The social housing block hasn't been completed to the high specification of the privately-owned flats but is still very nice. Bicycle Mews is one of the very few new build developments in Clapham, although more have appeared since it was built.
